Sometimes when you're working on a piece of art you become so enmeshed in the small details that you often forget that you need to just step back and look at the entire picture to see how its overall shape and feel are coming along. I've recently taken a step back to look at my Etsy shop, "Stormie and Mel" with new eyes.
I started to question and see what I could do to improve the shop. I then came to the conclusion that I shouldn't limit myself to just art printed on paper. Thus the idea for transforming my shop into one that sells my original designs on t-shirts was born. Wearable art!
I'm so excited about this and I'm eagerly awaiting my screen printing supplies to arrive.
The shop will be undergoing some major changes in the upcoming week. Thanks to all those who have admired my art thus far and stay tuned for a brand new and improved "Stormie and Mel."

Doodling All Those Years in School Led to This
I used to doodle constantly during class. The edges of my notebook pages were filled with curls, swirls, vines, leaves, flowers and the occasional human character. I'm still a kid at heart so the doodles of the past have turned into the illustrations of the present.

It's So Fluffy!!!
Anyone who's seen the movie "Despicable Me" knows this line. I saw it the other day and found it to be one of the best and cutest movies I had seen in a long time.
Well, ever inspired by cute and fluffy things I decided to draw and paint a bunch of cats.
The ones I just listed in my shop can be customized to feature whatever background color you'd like. I have black cats, white ones, ginger ones and brown ones.

Something Spooky This Way Comes
I started thinking about my next piece of art earlier today and so began doodling. I am always prone to drawing a lot of loops and squiggles for some reason. When I showed them to my boyfriend and asked him if he had any ideas about what I should paint next, he said that the doodle reminded him of Medusa.
So, I whipped up this painting. Don't let her cute exterior fool you though as she can be quite deadly. You can find a print of this painting here on Etsy:

Time for a Nap
I'm so excited to announce that my "Sleepytime Print" made it into this beautiful Etsy treasury!"I'm Just So Sleepy" Etsy Treasury
Stormie is napping right now and I'm so sleepy I seriously feel like taking one with him. Still, there's grocery shopping and more work to do.

Bird Watching at Night
Cats are nocturnal animals by nature and I'm reminded of this on a daily basis every time I try to catch some z's at night. All I hear are either the jingles of his little toys or of him running around. There's one thing I certainly don't mind though. Stormie has a habit of jumping on the bed to nuzzle me with his wet nose several times a night and then run away. I call it a "Stormie kiss."
Stormie also climbs up on our window sill to stare outside. He usually does so at dawn when the birds are chirping. This is what inspired me to do this painting. I love the way the landscape appears to be lit by the moon.
I also have a daytime version of this painting if you prefer.
Day or night, Stormie always keeps me amused!

Kitty Love Painting
I'm proud to announce that the first painting in the Stormie and Mel series is now listed in my Etsy shop! I feel like celebrating! It's a mixed media piece that incorporates colored pencil, ink and watercolor. It's vibrant and conveys the love that I have for Stormie, my cat.
I kept glancing over at him as he was sleeping while I was working on this piece and kept trying to remember what my life was before he came into my life. I realize now that it was quite dull.
